I Have a Flimsy!!!

Today was fine, after a frost, then cloud, then sunshine.

Hugh was at the controls, and somewhere I have a video of the Freefall QAL flimsy on the ground, from an aerial view. However that will take some  editing, so meantime …. Here are some Leaves!!!

The Weeping Silver pear tree, planted in memory of Neil McKinstry, ( Hugh’s Dad). This was taken in June 2014.

Chestnut tree in Autumn            And today, the Freefall QAL flimsy had its first outing. Pinned to a cord, and hung out from a tree, it is a stained glass photo shoot.

Freefall QAL Flimsy #1        I love the effect with the sun shining through. And I have high hopes to have it quilted by the 15th!!!

Freefall QAL Flimsy #3

Where would  we be in life without a  challenge or two? Our daughter and son-in-law have  arrived home after biking the Heaphy Track on the northern West Coast of the South Island.

The following photos are courtesy of the Internet and Adventure Flights.  Thank you.

Annette,Mike, Denise and Mark  biked the track, 4 days, 3 nights, the  Wednesday temperatures were so cold, the water bottles froze along the way!!!  From Karamea back to Nelson, the 4 bikes  were  strapped under the plane wings.  But, I have heard, it was a wonderful time.

Elevations that would give me palpitations before I even started!!!

Wonderful photos Jean - lovely to have these two beautiful trees. Congratulations on your colourful flimsy, yes, it does have the appearance of a stained glass window. Your daughter and son-in-law and companions are extremely brave - rather them than me!

Beautiful leaf fall, such pretty colours. The cycle ride does sound cold! I have never heard or seen bikes on a planes wings!

Hello Jean, the leaves and trees are beautiful. I love your quilt, it is gorgeous. The bike rides sounds like a real adventure. That is a cool photo of the bikes under the airplane. Happy Sunday, enjoy your day and new week ahead!

Beautiful trees and your flimsy is indeed a work of art. You should be well satisfied with the project, Jean. What a wonderful adventure your daughter and son-in-law took on. I'd be tempted to stop every five minutes and gaze at the spectacular views. Amazed that the bicycles strapped to the plane's wings didn't interfere with aerodynamics. So much to admire!

What a very awesome way to transport the bikes; it looks like a grand adventure. Your Freefall quilt looks wonderful. I do love a good stained glass-esque photo of a quilt top. Good luck having it quilted in the next 4 days!

Love the fall color photos of the trees. Your quilt too. We're heading into the hot, humid part of our summer so the idea of frost sounds great!

Your quilt top looks right at home out there by your gorgeous trees!
Many years ago we walked the Milford Track, took about 5 days I seem to remember. It was a great experience to be out in the wilderness. There is no way we would be able to do that now though.

The quilt is beautiful, Jean! Canada is gearing up for its 150 birthday party on July 1.
And what a bike trip that was! I have never seen bicycles strapped to a plane like that.

It looks as if the beautiful autumn leaves helped inspire your quilting! You have an amazing eye for full and rich colors. I adore that quilt. Is a "flimsy" a phase in the process of making a quilt? Just wondering.

Lovely quilt top, Jean! I too like the stain glass look. What an adventure for your daughter and SIL. I plan on sharing the photos with my son as he is currently studying for his pilot's license and mountain biking is one of his sports.
